It's great for socks as well as any other project calling for 4ply. Suggested needle size 2-3mm and it should be suitable for most 4ply designs but do check your own tension! One ball is more than enough for a pair of socks. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe colours are typical of hand-dyed yarns in that there are bands of colour changes but they are all flecked and soft changes rather than hard stripes.  There is a picture of the colourway on the yarn label (shown here) but that's just an indication of what to expect rather than the exact colour changes, as each ball is unique.
