A play on World Wide Knit In Public Day! We invite you to join us to knit or crochet a blanket or part thereof..... hence the "strip." So now you know - you don't have to take your clothes off (unless you want to, and we've already had one offer.....).
Bring a chair, your needles/hooks and some yarn and work on a blanket; if you can't face a whole one then make a start on a strip about a foot wide. It needs to be six feet long but if you get fed up, pass it on to someone else to continue with, in true community spirit. Each blanket needs to be 6' x 4' or just over; individual strips can be joined together by a rather lovely volunteer at Crazy About Knitting in Melksham.
Bring whatever refreshments you like although there are of course some rather marvellous hostelries just a few steps away in the Market Place.
If you wish, Victoria will show you how to make a ten-stitch blanket - a useful way of making a blanket without having huge long rows.
When complete (and you can take them away to finish them bring them back to us either complete or in strips), the blankets will be going off to Operation Orphan; their urgent need at the moment is in Gaza.
We'd like to thank Crazy About Knitting for not only having the good idea for the event but for everything they do for folk in need. Hurrah to Bev and Hillary and all their volunteers.
This is a free event and there are no tickets, just turn up :-)
Important: We don't have room in the shop for folk to sit and stitch; the plan is that the weather will be fabulous for you to sit across the road whether there is sun for those who want it or shade under the arches for those who want that. Risk assessment - Snuff Street is a pedestrian zone but there are drivers who ignore this so PLEASE TAKE GREAT CARE when moving about in the street, especially when crossing the road. Snuff Street is open to cyclists in either direction so you need to look out for them in case you don't hear them.
